Repairs

Most repairs are morning drop-offs. Bring the garment between 9:00 and 12:00 and leave with a ticket. The price of a zip below includes the new zip. You do not need to buy one on the way, unless you want a match so particular that we should see it first.

A trouser zip is ₪90 and three working days. Jeans, where the metal button often has to come off and go back, are ₪105 and four working days. An ordinary dress zip is ₪130. An invisible zip, the one that hides in a seam, is ₪155 in a skirt and ₪175 in a dress, because the seam has to be opened cleanly and pressed so the teeth do not show. A jacket zip is ₪175 and five working days. If the old zip has stained the cloth, or the tape has chewed the seam, we will say so before we unpick. Sometimes the repair is the seam as well as the zip, and the ticket changes.

Waist, seat, and what “let out” really means

Taking a waist in is usually possible. Letting one out is only possible if the person who made the garment left cloth inside the seam. We look before we promise. If the allowance is a few millimetres, we will tell you the waist can move a little and no more. We do not add a gusset of different cloth and pretend it was always there, unless you ask for that and accept the look of it.

A trouser waist, side seams or centre back, is ₪125 and four working days. Waist and seat together are ₪185 and five working days. Letting a waist out, when the allowance exists, is ₪140. A skirt waist is ₪115. Tapering both trouser legs is ₪95. These are ordinary wool, cotton, and denim prices. A lined dress trouser, or a waistband with a curtain and a split, takes longer and is priced when we open it.

A shirt taken in at the sides is ₪95. Sleeves shortened, with the cuff put back rather than just chopped, are ₪82. A shirt hem is ₪55. We do not “take in a shirt” by only moving the buttons. That twists the front. If buttons are the right answer, we will say so, and a plain button is ₪22 each.

Tears, pockets, linings

An open seam is ₪40 and two working days. A small tear, darned or patched from cloth we can hide, is ₪55 and three working days. A pocket rebuilt, when the bag has gone through, is ₪95 and four working days. Belt loops, the set, are ₪70. A jacket lining that has split along the usual place, the bottom of the centre back, is ₪145 and five working days. Replacing a whole coat lining is ₪380 and ten working days, and we will want to see the coat before we order the cloth, because the colour has to live with a coat you already own.

A jacket sleeve, shortened properly, means the buttons come off, the lining is opened, the sleeve is cut, and the buttons go back in a line you can live with. That is ₪165 and six working days. Taking the sides of a jacket in, including the lining, is ₪240 and eight working days. The centre back is ₪190 and six working days. We alter jackets. We do not cut new ones. A canvassed jacket from scratch is not work this room does.

What was already wrong

Before a garment goes on the table we look at it in the light from the window and write what we see on both copies of the ticket. A thin elbow, a stain at the hem, a zip that is failing in a second place you did not mention, a lining that powders when you pinch it. You get the copy with that note. If you think we are wrong, say so before you leave the room. After that, the note is the record.

We are not responsible for damage that was already there, or for cloth that fails because it was already dry or rotten. If we put a new hole in sound cloth, we repair it if it can be repaired, or we refund the job. We do not replace an entire coat because a corner of a pocket gave way on cloth we had already described as weak. The terms say this in the form we stand behind.

Mould, damp, and clothes that have not been washed after heavy wear do not go on the cutting table. They mark the next person’s wool. We will refuse them at the door, politely, and ask you to bring them back clean. Leather, including a leather pocket trim that we would have to stitch through, is a refusal. Repairs are paid when you collect, from 15:00 Sunday to Thursday. If the phone on the ticket is wrong, we cannot tell you it is ready. Check the number before you go. A job is not promised for a Saturday, and a Friday afternoon does not exist here: the door closes at 13:00.
